Ask an Expert: Kurt von Moos
In our new Ask an Expert series, we spoke to Kurt von Moos about his role in Capital GES.
Kurt joined Capital GES in June 2018. As Compliance Manager, he leads both the Research & Development and Contracts Teams. Kurt is based at the Capital GES Headquarters in Switzerland. Before joining Capital GES, Kurt specialised in leading projects, teams and departments in the fields of Human Capital Management, Global Talent Acquisition and Software Development. His previous roles gave him a strong background in finding solutions to complex mobility and compliance issues within a global marketplace. These skills transferred to employment solutions relatively easily as both work off a highly structured legal framework.
Q: Describe your role? And how has it evolved?
I lead the Compliance team, which is comprised of two departments: Contracts – who manage all contractual relationships with our clients and Research and Development: who are tasked with building, updating and adapting the services Capital offer to clients. My role is to support these teams and work with the rest of the Capital GES management team to improve internal documentation, tools and processes to ensure Capital continues to live up to our company values of being THE WORLDS MOST TRUSTED EMPLOYMENT SOLUTIONS PARTNER.
Q: What is the most challenging part of your job?
Supporting the internal client services, payroll and sales teams in multiple countries requires us to constantly update our knowledge of local legislation and how we shape the EOR product. These internal teams are effectively our clients and we want to provide the absolute best service and support we can.
Q: Most rewarding part of your job?
Creating a unified compliance team, uniting the two legally focused departments within the company has been a challenge, but hugely rewarding. We are documenting our vast knowledge across multiple International territories and enabling our internal teams to make better informed decisions. Seeing the numbers grow and at the same time the quality of the business we facilitate improve makes all the hard work worth it!
Q: What do you think will change fundamentally in the next 12 months?
In the general marketplace I foresee the biggest changes linked to Brexit, and the new relationships Britain will forge after October. For Capital GES, I see the biggest changes coming from our expansion into new territories (such as the APAC region) as we start working with new business cultures and legislative approaches to employment law.
Q: What’s something important that you’ve learned since starting your new role?
I have learned how fortunate I am to lead a team where each member lives and breathes the company ethos and pushes themselves and other departments to be the best they can be.
Q: What is the one piece of advice you would give a company considering foreign expansion?
My advice would be for a company considering global expansion is to truly consider what they need from their foreign expansion; do they need all the additional infrastructure and costs that come with a local entity or office. If it is a matter of needing the right people in the right location in a timely matter for me, I know who they should call.
