1. Fixed-Term Contracts
Fixed-term contracts may only be extended three times. This can also only be for a maximum duration of 24 months. 

2. Backdating Contracts
Contracts must be signed before an employee begins working.

3. Social Security
Employer contributions in Belgium total up to 40 per cent of gross remuneration, while employee social contributions total approximately 14 per cent of gross remuneration.

4. Termination Costs
Severance is paid in accordance with notice periods, which range from two weeks for three months of employment to 64 weeks for 23 years. Compensation may be claimed if a court rules the dismissal is unfair.  

5. Employment Contracts
Belgium has specific rules governing the language in employment contracts due to the country’s linguistic diversity. Contracts must always be in writing and specify the type of employment agreed, trial period, restrictive covenants and notice period.
